What can you do in English about a B2 level?

A B2 level of English will allow you to work in English at the workplace, and indeed many non-native English speakers in international workplaces have that level of English. However, a person who works in English at a B2 level may lack nuance particularly outside his or her own area. We can also skip some of the subtleties and implicit conversational meanings.

Someone at B2 level in English, in compliance with the official CEFR guidelines:

o   Will understand the main ideas of complex text on concrete as well as abstract topics, including technical discussions in his / her field of specialization.

o   Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes it very possible to communicate frequently with native speakers without any burden on either group.

o   Can produce simple, detailed text on a broad range of topics and explain a point of view on a topical issue which gives the advantages and disadvantages of different options.

B2 English language skills in depth

For instructional purposes the official can-do statements are broken into smaller parts. This more thorough overview of skills will help you determine your own level of English, or help a teacher assess a level of students. For example, an English-language B2 student will be able to do all the things a Level B1 student can do, and he will also be able to:

o   Participate in professional meetings in your area of expertise, if you want to understand those issues.

o   Address gender problems, as they apply to rudeness expectations and cultural norms.

o   Talk about your personal finances, and give advice on your finances to friends and colleagues.

o   Speak about your personal and professional lifestyle, and explain your working life.

o   Explain your background, your experience, your talents, your shortcomings and your career direction.

o   Speak about mental processes, and how to use them to improve your job performance.

o   talk about what you like to read and make recommendations about good things to read.

o   In social contexts, using correct words of praise and sympathy.

o   Discuss the qualities of leadership, and think about leaders you respect.

o   Tackle fairly complex, uncomfortable situations in social and business contexts.

o   Discuss common political circumstances, and politicians' behaviour.

While progress will depend on the type of course and the individual student, with 600 hours of cumulative instruction , students may expect to achieve the B2 level in English.
